Prototype one - Ben
How can we make the player feel more immersed using the features of the PlayStation 5 controller?
This was the question Luke and I decided to answer by creating a prototype game. We brainstormed ideas that could use the PS5 controller's unique features and came up with a variety of answers, including a line of sight mechanic using the triggers. This is what I decided to focus on in my prototype. I found it difficult to implement the player controls at first since I'd never done anything like this before, but I managed to get the hang of it. Since we only have one PS5 controller to test with, I made a mechanic based on the PS4 controller and decided to make a light that changed sizes depending on the angle of the trigger. I wanted to make this slightly challenging for the player, so I created a margin in which the player had to hold the trigger, otherwise, the light would go out, leaving the player in darkness. When I learn more about creating games with the PS4 controller I will change the brightness of the lightbar in correspondence to the level of light in-game. If I had access to a PS5 controller I would like to make the trigger respond to the player's input, such as vibrating when the trigger is in the wrong place.
