Devlog 2 Corrupted vision
Question
Ben and I both used the same question to answer this week when it came to the corrupted vision prompt. The question that we both asked was: What can we do to challenge the Player whilst the player has to adapt to game play.
For this prompt both Ben and I brainstormed as a team and decided that we would use the same question again but focus on different ways of game play ten we would present them to each other. Both Ben and I want this game to go in a horror/thriller type of game. We both decided to use mechanics that cause high pressure situations for the player. This would add to the genre of the game that we want to go for.
For the player experiences both Ben and I wanted the player to feel curious about the level environment which will make them want to explore, making the player feel intimidated and lastly for thee player to feel frustrated, Both Ben and I feel that this will add to the genre of game that were are hoping to create.
For my prototype I wanted to focus mainly on platform movement along with an enemy being able to follow the player. My prototype is done as a 2d platformer. The player can move and jump onto platforms whilst also moving along with the platform. Some of these platforms didn't go to plan. Some of the platforms have no rigidbodys meaning when the player interacts the platform will be in constant motion and will not be useful to the player at all. Another example of these platforms not working is the player does not love with some of the platforms meaning if they stay still they will eventually fall off the platform if they are not moving with it.
There is an enemy in the level which can follow the player around. The enemy doesnt have a rigidbody meaning that it can travel fast towards the player because it doesn't have to use the platforms for transportation towards the player. The enemy is programmed to always follow and approach the player. In this prototype the enemy cannot kill the player instead just moves them around the screen. This is part of the corrupted vision as I could have enemy's that could kill and enemies that just frustrate the player.
